30 Hours Free Childcare and Tax-Free Childcare

April 2017

Dear Parent/Carer

30 Hours Free Childcare and Tax-Free Childcare

We would like to make you aware that parents in Bradford have the opportunity to apply early to get up to £2,000 per child, per year, through the government’s new offer for working parents: Tax-Free Childcare.

Working parents of 3 and 4 year olds can also apply early for 30 hours free childcare, to secure your 30 hours place starting in September 2017. We will be offering this entitlement to eligible parents from September 2017.

Visit Childcare Choices – https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk and the Childcare Calculator – https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator to find out more about which schemes might suit you best.

To be eligible to apply for Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours free childcare early, you must:

  • live in Bradford and use childcare in Bradford
  • be in work and expect to earn (on average) at least £120 per week (equal to 16 hours at the National Minimum or Living Wage) and under £100,000 per year. This applies if you have a partner or if you are a single parent
  • have children under 12 (or under 17 for disabled children) for Tax-Free Childcare
  • have a 3 or 4 year old child for 30 hours free childcare

If you are eligible for Tax-Free Childcare, you can open an online account to pay for registered childcare. The government will top-up the money you pay into the account. For every £8 you pay in, the government will add an extra £2. You can receive up to £2,000 per child, or £4,000 for disabled children. If you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare, you can apply and get an eligibility code to secure a 30 hours place with your provider, for September 2017. Please provide the school office with your eligibility code if you wish to take up the entitlement in the Nursery at Cavendish.

You can’t use Tax-Free Childcare at the same time as childcare vouchers, Universal Credit or tax credits, though you can receive 30 hours free childcare.

If you live and use childcare in Bradford, after you’ve registered your interest, HMRC will email you from tax-free.childcare@bulletins.hmrc.gov.uk with an invitation to apply for Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours free childcare through their digital childcare service. The invites will be sent in batches, so it may take several weeks for this to arrive after you register your interest. You will then be able to apply for Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours through the web link in your invitation.

For further information and to register your interest to apply early (by 19 April 2017) for Tax-Free Childcare and 30 hours free childcare, visit https://www.bradford.gov.uk/children-young-people-and-families/looking-for-childcare/30-hours-free-childcare.

Yours sincerely
